Ripassiamo

Neurotypical is a term that refers to who has the brain functions, behavior, and psychological processes, as a standard or typical.
Neurotypical people may not have the idea being that if the topic has never been addressed before.
You might be confused about why the word neurotypical should exist at all.
That means your brain works the way the company expects and might seem like something that does not need a name.

Once you understand the concept of neurodiversity, you will better understand why the word neurotypical is essential.

The impact of being neurotipico

Being neurotypical is an identity that implies many privileges. These privileges are the ones that those of us who fall under the umbrella of neurotypical can think of rarely, if not ever.
In a world set for the success of certain types of people, these do not need to reflect on how the company is set to help them succeed. Here are some of the privileges that being neurotypical entails.

Education

In general, neurotypical people can manage themselves to an educational system standard. Learn skills on how to speak, read and write at the appropriate time during childhood. They can keep pace with their classmates and graduate with them. People neurotypical, however, have strengths and weaknesses, just like anyone else.
For example, a person can be good in mathematics but have difficulty spelling or excel in English but learning a second language. Simple educational challenges are common and do not mean that a person is neurodiverse, especially if it complies with the stages of development and cognitive skills at the right age.

Socialization and appointments

Neurotypical people are generally able to socialize and build relationships with others without the need for help. It means that interaction with others comes naturally to them, and the things that for some people neurodivergent may need to be learned as skills, such as, for example, making eye contact, are probably not part of their world.

Because neurotypical people usually have excellent skills of communication are generally able to meet and make friends with other people without too much difficulty.

In addition, they are generally able to socialize in environments that people neurodivergent may find overly stimulating, such as a noisy bar or a music concert.

Employment

Many social customs are followed when a person is a member of society, especially at work. How you appeal to a head, as it is addressed to colleagues, and how they carry out their work tasks are only a few of these examples.

Operation is necessary, and cerebral processing is specific to mixing in a culture of working with other people.

How to be allies of the neurodivergent people

If you recently realized to be neurotypical, you may be wondering how you can ally with those who are not.

  • The first step towards an alliance with the people neurodivergent is to be aware that a person who is neurotypical and then have the privileges in our world that neurodivergent people do not have. Once this is achieved, here are some things that you can do.
  • Let neurodivergent people speak for themselves.
If in your life there is a person neurodivergent, you should defend his person. In theory, this is amazing! In practice, however, you must be very careful. Let people neurodivergent speak for themselves.
If someone wants to speak to them in a situation, discuss first what to say, and make sure to represent them and their point of view, not you and yours.
  • Use inclusive language. It is essential to avoid language skills, especially when this language is part of the neurodivergence in a negative light. For example, do not call someone "nerd" or "crazy" when you mean to say that his idea is "silly" or "extravagant".
  • Avoid using the diagnosis of neurodivergence as a joke. An example of this is to say, "I'm such an obsessive-compulsive disorder" when it comes to organizing their things. Say instead what you are: "I Am very organized, and I love to organize".
  • Do not ask for emotionally work. If you meet a person who is neurodiverse, you might be curious about his life experience. However, it can be incredibly invasive and tiring. This is called the emotional, exhausting, and emotionally draining work for the people asked to do so.
  • Instead, try yourself in the diagnosis or the diagnosis and make yourself available for a discussion or a conversation to expect the patient to share with you on her terms.
  • We also advise you to read articles written by neurodivergent people with the same diagnosis or watch their videos. This will help give you a more precise idea of their life experience.
